Practices  - Monday through Wednesday, Jan, 3rd through Feb.17th. Contact your event coach for your practice times and dates.

Competitions:

Fri.-Sat. Feb. 2nd-3rd –UHSTCA Indoor, Kearns Ice Oval 

Fri. Feb. 9h  – Utah Distance Challenge, Kearns Ice Oval

Sat. Feb. 10th - Salem HJ/SP (Salem ALC)

Thu. –Sat. Feb. 15h - 17th – Simplot Games, Idaho State Univ. (for qualifiers)

Fees:

Athletes must pay their own entry fees (usually $4-$25 per event) at the races.

All athletes must purchase a 2024 USATF membership card to participate with the club. https://www.usatf.org/membership/application Register with the Utah Association (34). American Fork XC Club number is 0123. 

Meet Qualifying: 

All athletes can participate in all meets except Simplot. For the Simplot meet, athletes must attend all practices and meet a qualifying mark by Fri. Feb 9th to be eligible to go.  Athletes are responsible for their own transportation to and from meets. Carpooling is encouraged.

Gatorade Boys Track and Field POY

 AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE UTAH BOYS TRACK & FIELD PLAYER OF THE YEAR  CHICAGO (June 29, 2023) —

 In its 38th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Daniel Simmons of American Fork High School is the 2022-23 Gatorade Utah Boys Track & Field Player of the Year. Simmons is the second Gatorade Utah Boys Track & Field Player of the Year to be chosen from American Fork High School.    The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Simmons as Utah’s best high school boys track & field athlete. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Track & Field Player of the Year award to be announced in July, Simmons joins an elite alumni association of state awardwinners in 12 sports, including Nico Young (2019-20, Newbury Park High School, Calif.), Michael Norman (2015-16 & 2014-15, Vista Murrieta High School, Calif.), Grant Fisher (2014-15 & 2013-14, Grand Blanc High School, Mich.) and Robert Griffin III (2006-07, Copperas Cove High School, Texas).  

The 2022-23 Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Player of the Year, the 5-foot-10, 127-pound junior won the national title in the 2-mile run at New Balance Nationals Outdoor this past season with a time of 8:41.23. Simmons also earned All-American honors at NBNO with a sixth-place finish in the mile run. He took second in the 3200meter run at the Arcadia Invitational with a time of 8:34.14, which ranked No. 2 nationally among prep competitors in 2023 and No. 3 in U.S. prep history. His top 2-mile time of 8:41.10 at the Brooks PR Invitational ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 12 in history, while his 4:07.51 performance in the 1600-meter run at the BYU Invitational ranked No. 22 this spring. 

 Simmons has volunteered locally as part of multiple community service initiatives through his church youth group. He has also donated his time by orchestrating food drives for the underserved and raising money for non-profit organizations. “Daniel Simmons continued on his path as a distance talent to be reckoned with,” said Rich Gonzalez, editor of PrepCalTrack.com. “His two-mile victory at New Balance Nationals put the finishing touches on a junior campaign which ended with him ranked among the top 15 prep competitors in history in two events.”  Simmons has maintained a 3.93 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall. 

Great Southwest Invite Results

 A couple AFHS athletes participated last weekend at the The Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, NM. Complete Results

Desirae Riehle placed 22nd in the 100m Dash in 12.60 seconds, 15th in 200m Dash in 24.94 (3rd All-Time at AFHS), and 9th in the 400m Dash in 57.56.

Lily Collier placed 18th in the 100m Hurdles in 15.54, and  9th in the 300m Hurdles in 47.12.

State Day 2 Results

 The Cavemen competed today at the Finals of the Utah State Track and Field Championships, held at the BYU, The Girls brought home the 2nd place trophy with 88 points, while the Boys placed third with 69 points.

Utah State Championships Information

 The Cavemen will be participating this Thursday and Saturday at the Utah State Track and Field Championships at the BYU. 

Bus leaves Thursday at 8:30 AM. 

Spectator Admission Admission prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students each day. Spectators will be admitted through the west gate. Spectators will be required to purchase tickets via the UHSAA GoFan app at gofan.co/UHSAA. UHSAA annual passes will be accepted at the ticket entrance.

BYU Invitational Results

 The Cavemen participated this past weekend at the 100+ Team BYU Track and Field Invitational. Both the Boys Team (45 points) and the Girls Team (47 points) placed 2nd in the 4A-6A competition. Clara Baker won the 4A-6A Girls Field  Athlete of the Meet, and Daniel Simmons won the 4A-6A Boys Track Athlete of the Meet.

 Last Saturday, the Cavemen participated in the Orem Tiger Trials Track and Field Invitational held at Timpanogos High School. The Boys Varsity Team remained undefeated with 81 points over the 34 team field. The Girls Varsity placed second with 62.5 points. Both teams were missing a full squad because of Prom.

 The Cavemen will be participating this Saturday at the Orem Tiger Trials, held at Timpanogos High School. The bus will leave AFHS at 6:50 AM. Meet Information
