Winter Workouts

 From December 6th through December 18th, athletes should be doing a minimum of 1 hour daily of active rest activity. This can include swimming, roller blading, mountain biking, road biking, stationary bike or spin class, or elliptical.

From December 20th through January 1st, athletes should be running 60 minutes daily, building from recovery to moderate pace.

We will begin Indoor Track Club on our return to school after Christmas Break.

It is essential that athletes are consistent and don't miss training days in December in order to be physically prepared for indoor track season.

 Tonight was the Runninglane Track Championships held in Madison, Alabama.

Brayden Packard placed 3rd in the Championship 800m Run with a time of 1:52.10.

Sam Nelson placed 8th in B1 Heat of the Mile Run in 4:15.18.

BYU Invite Information

 The Cavemen will be participating this Friday and Saturday at the BYU Invitational.

The bus will leave at 8:30 AM on Friday and 7:30 AM on Saturday.

There are very few tickets available at this link:

Spectator Admission - Admission to the meet is $10 per person, per day. Due to University COVID restrictions, admission is limited to 1,500 spectators per day and all tickets must be purchased online at www.byutickets.com. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, April 26th at 10 am. To allow as many athletes as possible to have family members attend, tickets will be limited to 2 per order. Masks are required on BYU Campus and must be worn throughout the event. Spectators will also be asked to socially distance by household groups while at the meet.

 Many people are interested in the progression and success of our boys' distance squad, culminating in the setting of 2 National High School Records in the past 5 years: The 4X1600m relay (16:41.30) in 2016, and the Boys' Cross-Country 5k team average (15:00.99) in 2020.

In 1998, the school record was 1:54.25, with 2:00.5 being the last (8th) time on the all-time list.

Today, the school record is 1:50.84, with 1:56.82 being the last (10th) time on the list, which would have been #2 in 1998. Since 2010, 111 different boys have run the 800m run, including sprinters who ran it in a dual meet. 14 different boys (12.6%) have broken 2:00, while 26 (23.4%) have broken 2:03, and 52 (46.8%) have broken 2:10. AFHS has had three  State Champions in the 800m Run. Since 2000, the boys have scored 99 points at State with 15 All-State (top 6) runners.

1600m Run:

In 1998, the school record was 4:20.35, with 4:31.35 being the last (8th) time on the all-time list.

Today, the school record is 4:06.22, with 4:18.50 being the last (10th) time on the list. Since 2010, 117 different boys have run the 1600m run. 11 different boys (9.4%) have broken 4:20, while 23(19.7%) have broken 4:30, 40 (34.2%) have broken 4:40, and 77 (65.8%) have broken 5:00. AFHS has had five State Champions in the 1600m Run. Altitude 1600's are about 5 seconds slower than times at sea-level. Since 2000, the boys have scored 151 points at State with 20 All-State (top 6) runners.

3200m Run:

In 1998, the school record was 9:20.95, with 10:08.66 being the last (8th) time on the all-time list.

Today, the school record is 8:54.97, with 9:18.36 being the last (10th) time on the list. Since 2010, 95 different boys have run the 3200m run. 11 different boys (11.6%) have broken 9:20, while 36(37.9%%) have broken 10:00, 46 (51.6%) have broken 10:14, and 75 (78.9%) have broken 11:00. AFHS has had ten State Champions in the 3200m Run. Since 2000, the boys have scored 221 points at State with 26 All-State (top 6) runners.
