This week, Orem High School will come over to AFHS on Thursday to race us in a 3200m Run at 3:30 PM, and on Saturday at Noon in a 1600m Run because the Simplot Games was canceled for the 2nd year in a row because of CoVid-19 concerns.

UHSTCA Indoor Championships Information

 This Friday and Saturday will be the dates for the UHSTCA Indoor Championships, held at the Kearns Olympic Ice Oval (5700 S. 4800 W. in Kearns).

Registration is done by the athlete online at runnercard.com

Meet Information:

Due to the ongoing pandemic, masks will be required for all spectators and competitors when not competing! Competitors should be wearing masks in team areas, the bullpen, and when spectating. 

 1. The cost to enter the meet is $4 per athlete per event if paid online. Relays will be $16. Individuals must pay online. Registration will be done at Runnercard.com. Registration will close at Midnight on Wed. February 9th. Spectators will be charged $5 per students/adults. Children under the age of 12 are free. All field event participants must check in at Ice Oval.

2. Payment must be made for all athletes entered. Athletes will receive a bib # which is their pass for the meet and events. Athletes will need the bib to check in to each event.

3. All athletes in running events must report to the Clerking Area (bullpen) at first call. Athletes will be scratched from the event on Final call and heat and lane assignments will be made at that time. Distance Events will be pre-seeded and athletes will need to check in to receive a sticker.

4. The first running event will start at 4:00 pm. Events will follow the order listed. There will be no time schedule. Approximate start times are listed for your reference. Athletes must pay close attention to the calls as they are made.

5. Field events will start as soon as the one before it completes. Long jump (2 pits) and pole vault will be held at the ice oval on Friday evening.

6. Due to the high number of competitors, minimum marks will be used in the long jump Athletes who do not equal or better the mark will have their third attempt measured.

7. Medals will be awarded the top three finishers in individual events and the top relay team.

8. Six places will be scored for team competition.

9. Spikes (3/16" pyramid) are allowed. Spikes can only be used on the track. There will be a $50 fine for any athlete found wearing their spikes in areas off the track.

10. Warm-up is allowed on the track as long as it does not cause a problem with an event. DO NOT WARMUP ON THE INSIDE OF THE ICE OVAL.

Utah Distance Challenge

 The Weber State Meet for this weekend has been cancelled because of CoVid-19. 

Next week, on Friday, February 4th at will be the Utah Distance Challenge at the Kearns Olympic Ice Oval. Coach Mostert needs to get registration done this Friday.

Instructions:
AFHS Instructions: Bring an envelope printed with your name, event, seed time,  and $8 cash or check (made to Caveman Track Club) to Coach Mostert  (girls to Coach Dunkley) by Friday, Jan. 28th. 

Athletes will need to coordinate their own rides to the meet (carpooling preferred)

Cost:
$8 per athlete covers all events registration and seeding will take place prior on ut.milesplit.com. All registration done the day will be placed in the final heat. Spectators (age 12 and older) will be charged $3. There will be no charge for coaches.

T-Shirts will be available for $15.
Information:
1. We will run the fast heat first in each event. Races will not begin before the scheduled time, but may start late based on the number of participants.
2. 3/16-inch pyramid spikes. The same spikes required two weeks earlier at the UHSTCA Meet. Spikes may only be worn on the track surface. Remove your spikes when leaving the track.
3. Athletes need to be at the starting line for check-in 15 minutes prior to their event. Heat sheets will be available before the meet.
4. Runners from states other than Utah and 8th Graders are invited to participate.
5. The top 6-8 heats of the 400m Dash will be run in lanes with 4 runners per heat. The remaining heats will be waterfall starts with 6-8 runners per heat.
6. No outside food is allowed

Indoor Track Club Schedule

 American Fork XC Club has begun Indoor Track this week meeting Monday through Saturday at AFHS.

Schedule:

Practices  - Monday through Saturday Jan, 3rd through Feb.19th.

Competitions: 

Fri.-Sat. Jan. 21-22– BYU Indoor

Fri.-Sat. Jan. 28-29 – Weber State Indoor, WSU

Sat. , Feb. 4h  – Utah Distance Challenge, Kearns Ice Oval

Fri.-Sat. Feb. 11-12 –UHSTCA Indoor, Kearns Ice Oval

Thu. –Sat. Feb. 17th - 19th – Simplot Games, Idaho State Univ. (for qualifiers)


Fees:

Athletes must pay their own entry fees (usually $4-$20 per event) at the races.

All athletes must purchase a 2022 USATF membership card to participate with the club. https://www.usatf.org/membership/application Register with the Utah Association (34). American Fork XC Club number is 0123. 

Meet Qualifying: 

All athletes can participate in all meets except Simplot. For the Simplot meet, athletes must attend all practices and meet a qualifying mark by Fri. Feb 7th to be eligible to go.  Athletes are responsible for their own transportation to and from meets. Carpooling is encouraged.

Winter Workouts

 From December 6th through December 18th, athletes should be doing a minimum of 1 hour daily of active rest activity. This can include swimming, roller blading, mountain biking, road biking, stationary bike or spin class, or elliptical.

From December 20th through January 1st, athletes should be running 60 minutes daily, building from recovery to moderate pace.

We will begin Indoor Track Club on our return to school after Christmas Break.

It is essential that athletes are consistent and don't miss training days in December in order to be physically prepared for indoor track season.

Runninglane Track Championships Results

 Tonight was the Runninglane Track Championships held in Madison, Alabama.

Brayden Packard placed 3rd in the Championship 800m Run with a time of 1:52.10.

Sam Nelson placed 8th in B1 Heat of the Mile Run in 4:15.18.

Brayden Packard placed 6th in the Championship Mile Run in 4:12.09.
