BYU Indoor Invitational

This weekend, we had a good sized group of athletes participate at the BYU Indoor Invitional.

Scholarship Opportunity for HS Seniors


 This email is a reminder, and a clarification, regarding the UIAAA scholarship program.  The UIAAA is asking that you forward this information to all interested at your school.  This would include all councilors, coaches and especially, senior athletes.  There is no limit per school pertaining to the number of athletes that may apply.  
     The minimum requirements that must be attained in order to apply for the scholarship are found below.  Notice the different set of criteria, one for the NIAAA and another for the UIAAA.  The UIAAA will select 5 students to receive $1,000 scholarships.  The top ranked male and female will be forwarded to the NIAAA for consideration.  The links are - 
Minimum Requirements for the NIAAA Scholarship
·         Applicant must have achieved at least two (2) of the following: (a) minimum of B+ average; (b) ranked in the top 25% of class; (c) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Verbal and Math only)
·         Applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport
·         Applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports
·         Applicant must complete attached scholar application
·         Applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the high school athletic administrator/director
·         School athletic administrator/director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association
·         The principal or athletic administrator/director must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate
·         All materials must be postmarked to UIAAA/NIAAA scholarship program  199 East 7200 South, Midvale, Utah 84047.  (no later than January 31, 2014.)

National Postal Meet

The American Fork Boys finished the season ranked 4th in the nation in the 2013 National Postal Meet sponsored by XCNATION.COM
The National Postal Meet takes the top 5 3200m times from the track season and averages them.
The Cavemen times were good enough to also place 17th on the all-time list. High altitude times are converted using the NCAA altitude conversions.

The Great Southwest Classic


Three athletes and a coach from American Fork traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend  for the Great Southwest Classic. All-Star teams from 12 states competed. Coach Mostert went down as a chaperone and distance coach for the 115 athlete contingent from the Beehive State. Both boys and girls teams finished second: the girls to Colorado and the boys to Arizona. It was the best overall finish by Utah in the 39 year history of the meet.

On Friday night, Connor McMillan placed third and set a new Cavemen record in the 2000m Steeplechase, running 6:12.38, a 15 second PR. An hour later, Brayden McLelland helped the 4X800 Utah B Team place 4th, while Tyson Green helped the 4X800 Utah C Team place 7th.

On a very windy Saturday, Brayden Mclelland placed 4th in the 1-Mile Run with a time of  4:27.93. That evening, Tyson Green placed 5th in the 3200m run with a time of 9:43.50.

THE GREAT SOUTHWEST CLASSIC

Three Cavemen will be participating as members of the Utah All-Star Track and Field Team at the 2013 Great Southwest Classic to be held June 7-8 at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

State Champion Brayden McLelland will be racing in the 1500m Run.
Connor McMillan will be racing in the 2000m Steeplechase.
Tyson Green will be racing in the 3200m Run.

Coach Mostert will be going as one of the team coaches.

All-Star teams from 12 states around the Southwest US compete.

Utah State Championships Day 2

The boys finished their season with a tie for 8th place at the State Championships yesterday. The girls team placed 17th.

Brayden McLelland was State Champion in the 3200m Run, winning in 9:09.50 (2nd All-Time at AFHS). Connor McMillan was right behind him with a 2nd place finish in 9:21.62 (5th All-Time at AFHS). Tyson Green placed 7th in the 3200m Run in 9:29 (8th All-Time at AFHS).  Zac Jacklin also ran in the 3200m Run, placing 11th in 9:46.72.

Jonah Trinnaman placed 2nd in the 100m Dash with a time of 10.95.

Maddie Bench placed 7th in the Girls 3200m Run with a time of 11:20.13 (4th All-Time at AFHS).
She was followed by Makayla Stepp, placing 10th in 11:31.38 (8th All-Time at AFHS), and Sophie Baird, placing 11th in 11:34.27.

Mallory Saluone placed 15th in the Girls Discus with a throw of 90'3.5"

The Team Awards Banquet will be in the cafeteria this Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
