The Great Southwest Classic
Clayton Young and Mack Morrison represented the State of Utah at the 36th Annual Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico last weekend. They traveled down last Thursday as members of the Utah All-Star Team with Coach Mostert selected as team distance coach.

On Friday, Mack started it off with a second place finish in the 2000m steeplechase with a time of 6:20.26; 2nd fastest in school history.

On Saturday, Clayton and Mack ran in the 3200m run. Clayton won the event in 9:22.92, while Mack placed 8th in 9:48.53.

Utah State Championships
The UHSAA State Track and Field Championships were held this past Friday and Saturday at the BYU.
Our boys team finished with the 2nd place trophy, only 1 point ahead of Riverton and 22 points behind winner Davis. This was our first Track trophy since 2nd place in 2001. The girls ended up tied in 21st place.
Austin West won both the 1600m Run in a school record 4:13.67, and the 3200m Run in 9:06.19. He also placed 7th in the 800m Run in 1:57.23.
The boys Medley Relay team of Dredan Snowden, Trinity Devereaux, Spencer Vernon, and Danny Keller (with Kevin Judd running in prelims) took 2nd and set a school record in 3:30.77.
Clayton Young placed third in both the 1600m Run in 4:16.21 (2nd all-time at AFHS), and in the 3200m Run in 9:19.09. He also placed 5th in the 800m Run in 1:56.30 and was on the 7th place 4X400 m Relay team with Danny Keller, Cole Odle, and Nafe Richardson (with Spencer Vernon running in the prelims) in 3:26.68.
Nafe Richardson also placed 5th in the 3200m Run in 9:29.00 (4th all-time at AFHS), 6th in the 800m Run in 1:56.79, and 11th in the 1600m Run in 4:26.77.
Danny Keller also placed in a tie for 4th in the High Jump at 6'00.
Mack Morrison placed 6th in the 3200m Run in 9:30.65 and 15th in the 1600m Run in 4:30.89.
Cole Odle and Danny Keller placed 5th and 6th, respectively, in the 400m Dash in 50.32 and 50.46.
The boys 4X100m Relay of Snowden,Devereaux, Blake Harmon, and Odle placed 6th with a 43.74 (7th all-time at AFHS).
Also competing for the Cavemen were Tanner Lee, 18th in the 300m Hurdles in 43.45, and Justin Holland, 14th in the Shot Put at 38'9" and 18th in the Discus at 121'11.75".

Aslo competing for the Lady Cavemen were Taylir Garrison, 10th in the High Jump at 5'0", Courtney Hull, 17th in the 100m Hurdles in 17.64, Abi Morrison, 12th in the 300m Hurdles in 49.61, Sheridan Hunt, 18th in the Discus at 73'6.75", Kaijsa Angerhofer, 15th in the Long Jump at 15'5", and Morgan Warner and Makayla Bernardo, 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 400m Dash in 61.11 and 61.71. The Girls 4X100m Relay team of Courtney Hull, Alexis Wall, Katie Hunt, and Abi Morrison placed 14th in 53.37.

Austin West set a new 5A record in the 3200m Run by winning in 9:04.75; the second fastest time in Utah history. Clayton Young placed second with a season PR of 9:21.10.

Orem Tiger Trial Invite
The boys team missed winning their third straight invite by only 2.5 points behind host Orem High. The girls placed 7th out of 12 teams attending.

Timp Relays
The Cavemen participated in the 2011 Timp Relays on Wednesday at Timpview High.
The big news is the boys 4X800 Relay team broke the previous Utah best time of 7:53.04 by Bingham High in 1992. The team of Nafe, Austin, Danny, and Clayton ran 7:50.9 (currently 6th in the nation).
This breaks the AFHS record by almost 8 seconds!
The Boys 4X200 team of Snowden, Devereaux, Harmon, and Spencer Vernon won in 1:33..25.

The Boys 4X100 team of Dre Snowden, Trinity Devereaux, Blake Harmon, and Cole Odle ran 43.85 (7th all-time at AFHS) to win.
The Boys 4X1600m Realy team of Kevin Judd, Tyson Green, Brayden McLelland, and Derek Day won in 18:46.73.
The Boys High Jump relay team of Danny Keller, Tanner Lee, and Mike Richards won. Danny Keller jumped a P.R. of 6'6" (5th all-time at AFHS).
The Girls Discus Relay team of LesMarie Purcell, Paige Leyba, and Sheridan Hunt also took 1st place.

In the Long Jump, Dre Snowden jumped 20'8.75" (9th all-time at AFHS).
The boys ended up winning the competition with 90 points over Wasatch's 85.5 points. The girls placed 4th with 70 points.
